DCC: Posters and Fatheads Part 2

DCC_CassieTrammell-Fathead2

We’ve already covered the DCC posters, but those aren’t the only goodies that fans can hang on their walls to commemorate America’s Sweethearts.  In 2006, a company named Fathead, LLC started making life-sized vinyl wall graphics depicting everything from professional athletes to animated heroes.  As of this writing, only one cheerleading squad has been featured and that is – you guessed it – the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

The first round of DCC Fatheads spotlighted Becca Gambel, Andrea Richards and Nicole Hamilton.  The trio (pictured above) did a promotional tour for the brand and answered some questions about being a DCC in the video below.

The second round of DCC Fatheads spotlighted Abigail Klein, Melissa Kellerman, Mia Greenhouse (all pictured below) and Cassie Trammell (top blog photo).

The third round of DCC Fatheads spotlighted Alyssa Torres and Kaitlin Ilseng.

All of the ladies look great and I can’t think of a better graphic to grace the wall of a Cowboys fan than a DCC Fathead.

(I apologize if I omitted any of the Fathead cheerleaders, but these are the only ones that my research uncovered).

CHEERS!

DCC: Posters and Fatheads

DCC_1977-poster

You can’t be a long-time DCC fan without being familiar with the poster above.  It came on the scene in 1978 and took the country by storm, rivaling the famous Farrah Fawcett poster of the same era.  This was one of the first (if not the first) DCC posters sold to the public.  It’s also the most popular poster the DCC ever put out, but there have been others.

DCC_80poster

The poster above was introduced in the 1979-1980 season.  It was issued around the same time as the Yearbook known as “A Touch of Class.”  This was also a very popular poster as it depicted some of the fan favorites of that era in game action photos.

A year later, the DCC decided to incorporate a western motif in their annual poster.  This one included six cheerleaders, four wearing the traditional uniform, one wearing the gorgeous cold weather bodysuit and another wearing one of the fringed Show Group costumes.

Three years after that the DCC decided to issue poster books that included photos of all squad members as well as pics from the sidelines, tryouts and USO tours.  The two poster books above are from the 1983 and 1984 seasons respectively.  I just love the galactic background on the 84 version.  The same background was used on the 84-85 cameos.

In the late 80s, early 90s the DCC released two more posters.  One portrayed nine cheerleaders in the end zone of Texas Stadium with artificial fog behind them and the famous hole-in-the-roof above them.  The other showed six DCCs standing on a grassy field with the Dallas skyline painted as a backdrop.  Both were really nice for the times.

Quite a few years passed without the DCC presenting any posters for public consumption.  Then around 2003 ESPN started a controversial advertisement campaign illustrated in the poster above.  I refer to it as a poster although it wasn’t on any bedroom walls.  It was instead plastered all over subway, bus shelters and billboards around the country.  Many professional (and some amateur) dancers took offense to the slogan “Without Sports, They’d Just Be Dancers.”  I’ve never heard the DCC’s take on it, but clearly they gave permission for the ladies to be used in the ad campaign.

Just for fun, I’ve included the poster below which came out in 1978 – the same year as the most popular one discussed first above.  This one is really sexy and kind of strays from the DCC’s wholesome image.  It’s an important part of DCC lore, though.  Here it is below.

Video – DCC Doritos/Cheetos/Fritos Commercial

The DCC have made many television appearances and I stumbled across this old Doritos commercial featuring “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.”  There is another version featuring some of the real squad members, but this one is pretty cute.

DCC Security Guy Becomes Stadium Art Ambassador

DCC_PhilWhitfield2

We all know him as the guy who reveals the number board at the preliminary round of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ annual auditions.  For more than 20 years that is exactly what Phil Whitfield did along with security duties for the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.  Last June the organization decided to put Whitfield in charge of AT&T Stadium’s world-renowned art collection, making him the official art ambassador for the Dallas Cowboys.  When the news first broke, there were several articles/videos detailing the promotion.  Check out the links below.

In the picture above, Whitfield poses in front of the one of the stadium’s many works of art.  But before he became art curator, he flashed that brilliant smile while watching over the safety of the hundreds of young ladies who made the trek to Arlington, TX to try to become a DCC.  He was at it so long that here’s a video from the 1999 auditions that features him around the 2:00 mark, dancing up a storm with the DCC hopefuls.

Congratulations to Mr. Whitfield for being designated art ambassador.  I just hope this doesn’t mean he will no longer reveal the number board on audition day.  It would be nice if he continues to do that one honor for the DCC.

Cheers.

DCC Boob Cakes

Warning:  Parental Discretion Advised.  That is if you have a problem with your kids viewing pastry as cleavage or cleavage as pastry.  However you want to look at it.  I say all of that to get to this week’s topic:  Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Boob Cakes.  You’ve probably seen them on the web at one point or another.  They are usually professionally done and the attention to detail is amazing on some of them.  OK, I know it’s sexist, but there’s something about the fact that the DCC uniform is PERFECT for cakes like this.  I have observed other pro cheerleader uniforms and I haven’t come across a single one that pops on a cake like the blue and white with stars.  IMO, the best designs incorporate the crystals and fringe around the vest.

Let’s start with the cakes that focus on the top only.  There are many on Google and I’ll try to give credit to the rightful owners.

DCC_14loveycakes          DCC_12cake1          DCC_14cakechooser

The first one is apparently the property of Lovey Cakes.   And bless their hearts, they even posted a link with instructions on how to make one of these of your own.  And oh my, is that red velvet cake?  Somebody hold me back!  The last one was found under the name of Cake Chooser.  I don’t know who rightfully owns the small one, but great work on all three of these.

I’m most impressed by how the “skin” portion looks like real flesh or pretty darn close to it.  That’s why those cakes that include the whole torso deserve some praise as well.  Here are some samples of those.

DCC_14RockCandyCake          DCC_12cake2          DCC_10cake2

The first one is a lovely concoction by Rock Candy Cakes.  I couldn’t identify the owner/decorator of the other two, but once again the attention to detail just blows my mind.

Not to take anything away from any of these wonderful creations, but the best I’ve come across so far is the one pictured below.  I don’t know who created it but they deserve some kind of award.  Look at the modern-day DCC belt buckle and fringes in “motion.”  That is genius.

DCC_14cake-best

I’ll end with a video from MyJustInCakes that also incorporates the silver belt buckle and some contagious Latin music.  Enjoy.

One last thing, if anyone ever comes across an African-American version – CHOCOLATE!!!  Please let me know at weeklydcc@live.com.

Cheers!
